This year's Waveney Triathlon, organised by the Norwich based Tri-Anglia club, has sold out in five hours.

With record numbers of athletes bidding to join from across Norfolk, Suffolk, and Cambridge, the event is proving to be one of the most popular on the Triathlon calendar.

“There may well be a pretty dire recession under way, but the massive oversubscription of Waveney proves that the triathlon is a boom industry” says event organiser Jim Keeble.

And Waveney Triathlon is not the only Tri-anglia success story. Membership of the Norwich-based triathlon club has increased by 33pc over the past 12 months with record numbers seeking the challenge of swimming, cycling, and then running long distances ... all in the name of keeping fit!

“We have a constant stream of enquiries coming in from people looking to take up triathlon,” explains club chair Jonathan Briggs. “It certainly seems to be a growth industry for the county!”

Club membership is open to all ages and Tri-anglia runs a variety of training sessions every week of the year - full details of all sessions and how to join can be found at www.tri-anglia.co.uk

Waveney Triathlon takes place at the Waveney pool (and surrounding area) in Bungay, on Sunday May 3.
