Harry, a former long serving member of the club, was fondly remembered. He would have been delighted to see one of the young bloods of the club winning his trophy when Eddie Bowles shot a spectacular 74-14-60 to take the honours, his second successive win in as many weeks having won last week's event also.

New member Chris Peach performed well taking second place (80-19-61) one shot behind the winner with Del Collyer third (83-18-65).

Another young member Christian Lever had an unusual stroke of good fortune when chipping his second shot to the 10th green.

Well off line with his chip, he saw it strike the “closest to pin” marker which deflected his ball to within inches of the hole for his tap-in par.

Before presenting the prizes, club captain Willie White thanked retiring treasurer Basil Dunn for his sterling accountancy work. Sam Cooper was then unanimously elected as his successor. He also thanked Sue for the refreshments and Mike Garrood for sponsoring prizes.

Tomorrow, the Avenue Catering Shield will be contested. The draw will be at the earlier time of 7.45am with the tee off at 8am.
