BECCLES Amateur Sailing Club held their annual dinner dance and prize giving at the weekend. The Waveney House Hotel was packed with over 140 members and guests attending.

The Commodore, Richard Deller, welcomed members and guests together with officers from other clubs.

He said it had been an extremely successful year both on and off the water. The sailing school had gone from strength to strength and the club had increased its fleet of boats to 20 having purchased three Fevas during the winter.

The mayor of Beccles, Jack Walmsley, replied on behalf of the guests then secretary Kevin Edwards announced the winners of the 2009 season. The mayoress of Beccles and Jo Edwards gave out trophies.

Jake Shipley in his Laser won five trophies, while the Commodore won four trophies with four different crews in his Enterprise. Rowan Curtis collected four trophies for his efforts in the junior section, sailing his Optimist. Milo Philips and Jake Smalls both won two trophies each, in their Toppers. Richard and Caroline Baylis won the Sunset Trophy for the midweek summer series.

2009 was probably the best season ever for turnouts, and the evening was a fitting conclusion to the season.
