Hales A are still searching for their elusive first Norfolk League Division Four win of the season despite a spirited attempt led by club captain Jon Vale to chase down a mammoth total by Ashmanhaugh A.

Vale was in sparkling form with the bat, hitting 76 for his maiden Norfolk League half-century as Hales set off in pursuit of a daunting 271 victory target, eventually ending 90 runs short.

Milton Lindsay (21) and Paul Bassingthwaighte (19) had put early runs on the board.

The damage had earlier been done by Ashmanhaugh's teenage duo Alex Metcalfe and Ross Sanders who enjoyed an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 202.

Sixteen-year-old Metcalfe was in particularly savage mood as he hit his maiden league century, including 17 fours and six sixes to finish unbeaten on 141.

Sanders, 15, was more measured in his approach contributing an unbeaten 52 as the Hales bowlers toiled for little reward on a good batting track.
