Just six days after his last marathon, Bungay Black Dog runner Ian Taylor travelled to Hertfordshire to compete in the" Three2go" trail marathon from St Margaret's to Hackney Marshes along the towpath of the River Lea Navigation.

The Holyfield Loop is slightly different each year and always manages to include sections of footpath around the former gravel workings at Cheshunt, new to Taylor despite growing up in the area in the 1970s.

He quickly moved into third place within the first 500m, and maintained this position for 25 miles until, sadly, he was overtaken near the filter beds at Hackney Marshes.

He finished fourth out of 126 in 3-19:42, more than four minutes ahead of the next competitor. He was third in 2008 and eighth in 2007 by comparison.

The weather was hot and sunny throughout, which had a marked effect on the times of the competitors.
