A variety of shows to suit all tastes pack the programme at the Fisher Theatre in Bungay, this week – with classic drama, mind reading and a French film.
On stage tonight Noted for Music presents Old Herbaceous, an adaption of the classic British novel of the garden, with a title character as outsized and unforgettable as P G Wodehouse’s immortal manservant Jeeves.
Born at the end of the Victorian era Old Herbaceous, Bert Pinnegar, was an awkward orphan child who spends all his working life as a gardener. The story sees him rise from inauspicious schoolboy days picking wild flowers and dodging angry farmers to become a legendary head gardener, the most esteemed flower show judge in the country and a famed horticultural wizard. Tickets are £14 and £12 for concessions.
On Thursday the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company presents a live streaming of John Osborne’s masterpiece, The Entertainer. Set against the backdrop of post-war Britain, this modern classic conjures the seedy glamour of the old music halls for an explosive examination of public masks and private torment.
In this production Rob Ashford directs Kenneth Branagh as the unforgettable Archie Rice. All tickets are £12.
Expect the unexpected in the ultimate mind reading experience, Mentalism Live, at the Fisher tomorrow. Mind games from the psychologically perplexing to the seemingly impossible will be presented by Chris North, who will have you laughing in one breath and amazed in the next. This show has a recommended minimum age of 14 years and tickets are £9 and £8 for concessions.
On Monday Bungay Film Club presents Marguerite, a French film with English subtitles. The film tells the story of Marguerite Dumont, who is about to take centre stage, but nobody knows much about the mysterious Marguerite except that she has devoted her whole life to music.
Featuring a witty script and a soundtrack including pieces by Bach, Vivaldi and Mozart, this costume drama was a huge success in France. Tickets are £5 and £2.50 for members of Bungay Film Club.
