Norwich based Baroque Theatre Company’s touring production of John Chapman’s farce Kindly Leave the Stage is at the Beccles Public Hall tonight at 7.30pm.

The much-lauded show premiered in 1993 and is a light-hearted take on the complete theatricality of stage folk.

It is a celebration of fun, mayhem and thespian mischief and a similar format to Noises Off - a play within a play. Jealousy, revelations and the precious actors’ egos are revealed as John Chapman’s crisp writing and hilarious ‘double entrendres’ are brought to life.

The play tells the story of Rupert and Sarah whose marriage is on the rocks. Their friends Charles and Madge are both lawyers and agree to handle the divorce. Just after curtain up, Rupert forgets his lines, has a brain storm and threatens to kill Charles in full view of the audience because he’s been having an affair off stage, with his real wife, Madge.

The rest of the cast try to ignore the incident and forge ahead with the original play but Rupert picks up a knife and advances on Charles, who is forced to take cover in a large cabin storage trunk which is on the set at the time. A real-life marital comedy evolves. Tickets cost £10 or £9 for concessions.

And there will be a special day of fun for families at the Public Hall on Wednesday, June 1.

Known for their modern take on traditional folk stories, Moon On A Stick Productions bring their unique fusion of puppetry and live action to reinvent this ancient tale. Taking the audience on a medieval quest where unlikely relationships lead to unexpected discoveries, engaging story-telling combines with exciting visuals and music, to present this unforgettable fable.

There will be two performances, at 11am and 2pm. Tickets are £8 for adults and £6 for children with a special family ticket available of £25 for two children and two adults.
