‘One of the best summers yet’ - Restaurant group to extend Eat Out to Help Out offers

A restaurant group says it will put its own Eat Out to Help Out-style offers in place after an “unbelievable month”.
Management at popular venues across East Suffolk will continue to offer discounts after the Eat Out to Help Out scheme closes.
With the government’s half-price scheme finishing on bank holiday Monday, management at Moss and Co – which runs six venues across the area – are planning to extend their own 50 per cent offers throughout September to maintain the momentum after records tumbled.
The group - which runs The Angel Inn at Wangford, The Bell Inn in Carlton Colville, The Commodore in Oulton Broad, The Jolly Sailors in Pakefield, The Village Maid in Lound and The Waveney in Oulton Broad – reopened its venues on July 4 following significant investment.
Andrew Rogers, part of the management group at Moss and Co – which employs 150 staff – said: “Without doubt it’s been an unbelievable month.

“It has broken all our records, and so to maintain the momentum we are extending it for another month.
“What has been running on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays has become the new weekend for us.

Admitting the scheme has been “an amazing success,” Mr Rogers said: “We were hesitant at first, as we were unsure whether people may have concerns about coming into the venues.
“We had no idea what the scheme was going to be like and whether people would come out, but knowing that they can do it safely has meant we have seen more and more people out each week.
“We’ve been seeing a lot of new people coming into the venues, and the sun has been shining with people eating outside.
“I can’t explain how good this offer has been – every one of the venues has broken records.”
With people able to visit the venues “with confidence,” Mr Rogers said: “The Waveney, which has never been a food led pub, has gone from serving 20 meals a day, to 200 a day.
“We had to extend our food service hours at all of our venues to cater for demand.
“We were serving food between noon and 2pm and 6pm to 9pm, but to fit all the people in we were serving all the way through.
“What we thought would be quite a difficult summer has been one of best summers yet.”
