This Sunday will see some authentic American roots music performed on the stage of Bungay’s Fisher Theatre.

The music from the Mississippi Delta to the Kentucky Mountains will be played by some of the finest traditional American roots, bluegrass, ragtime and blues musicians.

Suffolk-based trio The Delta Beltas will be joined by the New Essex Bluegrass Band.

The Delta Beltas play at music venues all over the region and have a strong following.

The band is made up of Alan Fulwood, Tim Summerson and Anne Steel.

All three performers are talented vocalists who play a wide variety of instruments.

Since 1994 the New Essex Bluegrass Band has enjoyed more than 20 years as perhaps the most traditional sounding of all the UK bluegrass bands.

From the outset the band adopted the single microphone as the most appropriate form of stage sound and have inspired many other British bands to do the same.

The New Essex Bluegrass Band have played nearly all of the UK festivals and have appeared three times at the European World of Bluegrass in Halland.

The New Essex Bluegrass Band play authentic bluegrass with impeccable arrangements and hair-raising harmonies and are considered to be one of the finest authentic bluegrass bands in the country.

The band has been praised by some of the industry’s top experts.

Trevor Hyett, editor of British Bluegrass News, said: “I love their music as well as admire their dedication.

“More is never enough.”

Tales of illicit stills, street girls, jailhouses, love and jealousy, the Delta Beltas play hokum blues and ragtime as performed by street musicans and jug bands of America’s deep south in the 1920s and 1930s can be expected from both bands.

The gig at the Fisher Theatre, Bungay, is at 7.30pm on Sunday, March 1.

Tickets cost £10 and are available from the box office on 01986 897130.

Please note: This is mainly a standing gig although there is some limited seating available.
