The Fisher Theatre in Bungay is set to showcase a stunning story later this month.

UpShoot Theatre Company will bring “Moulin Rouge” to the stage.

The Moulin Rouge story was made famous by the 2001 film directed by Baz Lurman, as a tale of romance set against the backdrop of the opulent Moulin Rouge in 1899, Paris.

Behind the façade of lush surroundings, exotic embellishments and beautiful people, the harsh truth resides. These dancers, musicians, directors, managers, and businessmen all live in a grimy underworld where they sell their art and themselves to the rich punters.

Moulin Rouge will hit the stage at the Fisher Theatre, running from September 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 as is features some spectacular local talent. This includes Ruth Alder as Satine, the electrifying courtesan heroine, with whom the writer Christian, played by Daniel Self, falls in love.

James Snelling plays the commercially minded proprietor Zidler, Simon Godfrey plays the evil Duke and Leon Bedwell leads the Bohemians as Toulouse-Lautrec. A cast of 24 local performers make up the all singing and dancing chorus, with classic numbers such as; The Can Can, Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend, Lady Marmalade, Roxanne Tango and Nature Boy by David Bowie.

Spectacular costumes have been produced by Olivia Docherty (FYTG Costume Hire) alongside stunning choreography by Alex Barrett, as the show is directed by Laila France and produced by Darren France.
