The illustrious actor-manager and founder of the original Fisher Theatre in Bungay, David Fisher, will be recreated by Charmed Life in the company’s production of Slyghtly Hystorical this weekend.
As part of the revived theatre’s 10th anniversary celebrations the play is staged tomorrow and Sunday. Fisher wanders through the town’s history ‘meeting’ many of its well-known former residents, as he tries to cast his production of Hamlet. Tickets are £12 or £10 for concessions.
On Sunday afternoon Bungay Theatre Group invites guests to a vintage afternoon tea party. But beware guests could find themselves at the centre of a mysterious crime. Tickets are £10.
The auditorium will be filled with the weird and wonderful for An Exhibition of Curiosities on Tuesday, September 27. Be amazed by the quirky, funny and just plain strange collection of curios collected for this most unusual exhibition. Viewing of the display is from 6.30pm and admission is £5.
On Wednesday, September 28, historian Chris Reeve will lead a tour of the building. His talk will trace the history and give guests an opportunity to explore the cellar and auditorium. The tour will be followed by afternoon tea and tickets cost £12.
On Thursday, September 29, a tribute to the origins of the theatre will be held with an evening of Georgian Fancy. On entry visitors will be presented with a glass of gin and 25 tokens to try their luck in an evening of gambling with whist, pontoon, rummy, shove ha’penny and roulette. Tickets are £5.
There are also two presentations on the theatre’s cinema screen. On Monday Bungay Film Club is showing Theeb. Set in 1916, Theeb lives with his Bedouin tribe in a remote part of the Ottoman Empire. Tickets are £5 or £2.50 for members. And the RSC production of the rarely performed Shakespearian play Cymbeline is being screened on Wednesday. Tickets are £12.
To get the week off to a stirring start the Ludlam Pikes will be playing Anglo Celtic and Americana acoustic-roots music tonight. Tickets are £10 or £8 for concessions.
