THE curtain has only just fallen on Waveney Light Opera Group's autumn show, Hello Dolly! but plans are already afoot for its successor. Following on with its tradition of offering a classic musical in the autumn and something a little more contemporary in the spring the team are proud to announce that its next show will be the musical, Billy, based on the hilarious novel Billy Liar by Keith Waterhouse, who passed away earlier this year.

Following on with its tradition of offering a classic musical in the autumn and something a little more contemporary in the spring the team are proud to announce that its next show will be the musical, Billy, based on the hilarious novel Billy Liar by Keith Waterhouse, who passed away earlier this year.
Billy Liar began life as a novel in 1959 and was adapted for the stage in 1960 with Albert Finney in the starring role. The 1963 film version featured Tom Courtenay as Billy, alongside Julie Christie, Leonard Rossiter and Rodney Bewes.
In 1973 the novel was used as the basis for a sitcom starring Jeff Rawle as Billy, and in 1974 the musical version premiered in the West End featuring Michael Crawford and Elaine Paige.
Stella Brownsea is once again the musical director for the show and making her directorial debut is the group's very own Dolly, Sarah Cook.
WLOG is always on the lookout for new members to get involved with its productions, and that's not just actors, singers and dancers. Every production requires a veritable army of people working together to produce the magic, from front of house staff, make-up, costumes, light and sound, set building and props.
If you fancy getting involved visit Beccles Quaker Hall in Smallgate on Monday, November 9 at 7.30pm to hear all about the show. Open auditions will be held on November 25 and 30, with the show performances between April 20 and 24 next year.
