DRAWN by the Light is the title of a major exhibition of new pastel paintings by Beccles artist John Patchett, which opens tomorrow at The Assembly House in Norwich.
More than 30 paintings depicting The Broads, markets, gardens, marine subjects and landscapes with horses and riders will be on view, until August 8.
A number of amateur artists are familiar with John's work because over the past 10 years he has been a regular contributor to pastel articles published in the Leisure Painter magazine.
John said: “My work sits squarely in the mainstream/impressionist tradition. Because of my background in painting with oils and acrylics, I use pastels very much as a 'painting' medium and have developed a technique which builds up numerous layers of transparent and opaque colour, creating rich and diverse results. I believe it is necessary to paint as much as possible on location and try to express my love of light, mood and atmosphere whenever and wherever possible.
The exhibition, which opens daily between 10am and 5pm
