The Bungay Summer Festival has included a diverse range of music this year, and this final concert in the programme added another dimension.
Joyful Voices are making a name for themselves with beautiful, usually relaxing, a capella harmony singing – gospel songs, folk songs, songs from around the world, this time including ones from Africa and Macedonia. This is a choir with a smile on its face and through the melodies and words that smile reflects to the audience.
Once again the choir was joined by the Reynbirds, who sung seven songs, mainly period and baroque pieces – their precision harmonising was wonderful. And Mary Lovett, who formed Joyful Voices several years ago and rehearses and directs the group, team up with friend Jonathan to sing two slightly satirical pieces she had written herself and another, Burns’ My Love is Like a Red Red Rose, which she had adapted.
In all the audience was treated to 27 songs, which provided a delightful and memorable concert.
