A Norfolk art collective will be hosting two exhibitions in preparation for its annual art trail through the picturesque Waveney Valley.

Harleston and Waveney Art Trail collective (HWAT) are showcasing the work of 24 artists which will be featured in this year’s trail at two new exhibitions.

The first exhibition will run from Thursday, May 3 to Sunday, June 3 at Diss Corn Hall, while the second will run from Monday, April 30 to Thursday, May 31 at The Farmer’s Kitchen near Alburgh.

A HWAT spokesman said: “From vibrant abstracts and evocative landscapes to textiles, prints and sculptures there will be a range of art forms on offer.”

The Harleston and Waveney Art Trail takes place across two weekends in May – from 19 to 20 and 26 to 28.

Malcolm Cudmore, chairman of HWAT, said: “Both exhibitions will showcase recent works from members and give visitors a chance to see the quality and breadth of work that will form the Harleston and Waveney Art Trail.

“Getting prepared for the trail each year is always exciting. Some things seem the same but there is always change.”

Mr Cudmore added: “Each artist’s work develops over time and it is great to see new themes emerge.

“Those who have had a year out come back with new vigour. And, one or two others take time out for research and refreshment – causing me to speculate about all the exciting things they will be showing in another year.

“There will be an additional ‘have-a-go’ day on Friday, May 18. This will give visitors a hands-on experience of the techniques and skills that go into the excellent work.

“Constantly evolving, this year’s trail promises something for all tastes artistic. Come and join us.”

The Harleston and Waveney Art Trail has taken place every summer since 2005 and sees artists open their studios and workshops to the public.

Artist Chris Mound said: “It is a good opportunity to get first hand feedback on my work.

“I believe strongly in encouraging creative activity for wellbeing, so I am happy to demonstrate and talk about what I do.”
