Shakespeare’s classic comedy Twelfth Night is transposed into a ‘Spaghetti Western’ setting in an upcoming show by amateur theatre group RoughCast.
Beccles Public Hall will host the play, which tells the tale of shipwrecked twins, Viola and Sebastian, who wash up on the shores of Illyria.
Viola dons man’s clothing and seeks employment with the island’s ‘head man’ Duke Orsino and is sent to woo the beautiful Olivia on Duke’s behalf and Olivia inconveniently falls in love with Viola in his male disguise.
Director Mark Burridge said: “I’ve always felt that Shakespeare’s comedies can be set anywhere and at any time as long as it is colourful and atmospheric. A western-style setting suits this story, with its passionate love story and its duels and brawls.”
The show takes place on Thursday, July 6 at 7.30pm, with doors open at 7pm. Tickets are £10 or £8 for concessions available from www.becclespublichall.com, by calling 01502 770060, or from the box office, open Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm.
