Saxophonist, flautist and violinist Tori Freestone, who has toured all over the country and is recognised as being at the forefront of the improvised music scene, will be performing at the Fisher Theatre in Bungay, on Saturday, February 4.
This year got off to a great start for Tori, as she was awarded a prize in the PRS for Music jazz composition category at the Arts Foundation Awards.
She is known for her robust tenor sound and melodic invention, as well as an ability to amalgamate into a variety of styles and musical contexts while maintaining her personal and distinct voice.
As a composer her writing balances with playfulness while exploring new ways to blur the lines between the written and improvised.
Tori promises her tour will feature some of her new compositions. Tickets are £10 and £8 for concessions.
On Sunday, February 5, there is a complete change of mood at the Fisher with an encore showing of Il trovatore from the Royal Opera House.
This atmospheric and poetic staging by director David Büsch puts the story of passion against the backdrop of war. The famous Anvil Chorus is just one of the highlights of Verdi’s fine music, which captures the shifting emotions of the drama through impassioned love duets, fiery solos and stirring choruses. Tickets are £12.
Fisher Theatre Cinema presents Café Society, directed by Woody Allen, on Monday, February 6. Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart and Steve Carell, the film is set in the 1930s, when a Bronx native moves to Hollywood and falls in love with a young woman who is seeing a married man. All tickets are £5.
The classical favourite Swan Lake will be shown at the Fisher on Thursday, February 9. This is an encore presentation from the world famous Bolshoi. At moonlight on the banks of a mysterious lake, Prince Siegfried meets the bewitched swan-woman Odette. Tickets are £12.
• Tickets for all the shows are available on the door or they can be pre-booked at the Fisher Theatre box office, open 10am to 3pm, by calling 01986 897130 or at www.fishertheatre.org
