A much-loved choir will tackle one of Beethoven’s most challenging and under appreciated works at an upcoming performance.

Beccles Choral Society will perform ‘Missa solemnis’ at St Michael’s Church, in New Market, on Sunday, May 20.

A spokesman said: “Despite critical recognition as one of Beethoven’s great works from the height of his composing career,’ Missa solemnis’ has not achieved the same level of popular attention that many of his symphonies and sonatas have enjoyed.

“This is a great loss, as it is an extraordinarily exciting and challenging work for choir, soloists and orchestra.”

He added: “Once again the choir will be accompanied by the Kingfisher Sinfonietta, and will feature four young and accomplished soloists, all of whom have already distinguished themselves in the choral and operatic repertoire.

“This performance is guaranteed to stir the soul of its audience with its passion and intensity.

Tickets, costing £15,are available from Beccles Public Hall box office and Beccles Book Shop.
