THE spring programme of shows and events at the Fisher Theatre at Bungay again provides a wide range of attractions to suit every taste.
One highlight is the appearance of veteran television film reviewer Barry Norman, who presents An Audience with Barry Norman on April 9. He will reveal the secrets of the stars, including Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.
The popular Onion Band returns for St Patrick’s Night on March 17, and for real ale lovers there is Three Ales and a Gig, featuring a number of bands. For big stage shows there will be the Tigerlillies Showgirl Tour, and Abba Queens and The Everly Brothers tributes during the spring.
Fans of Leonard Cohen are treated to Keith James in Concert singing all the great man’s songs on April 13, while the Wednesday lunch-time concert series will feature pianist Nathan Williamson (March 16), pianist Christine Raynor (April 13) and The Kaleidoscope Ensemble (May 18).
Another April musical highlight will be flamenco guitarist Juan Martin in concert.
There is also plenty of comedy, with the Bungay Theatre Group’s production of Prepare to Meet Thy Tomb, and Sidi Scott’s Letters from Aldeburgh, with memories of Joyce Grenfell.
The Truth Behind I walked by Night, written by self-styled King of the Norfolk poachers Fred Rolfe, will be another big draw for local people, and there will be Royal Wedding celebrations on April 29, with the wedding on screen in the morning and an exclusive black tie dance featuring the Art Deco Hot Orchestra in the evening.
The Fisher Cinema has been switched to Monday evenings, beginning on March 14 with Inception (12A). Also showing will be Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (12A), and the multi-award-winning The King’s Speech (15).
The spring programme starts tomorrow evening with Celtic rockers The Band From County Hell on at 7.30pm, supported by Bungay’s own X-Men. Tickets are £9. Next Friday and Saturday, Upshoot presents Ben Elton’s adult comedy Popcorn, not suitable for under-16s (£8/concessions £6).
Red Beans ’n Rice will be providing jazz at the theatre on most Sunday evenings, while, in the Stage Door and Gallery, work by Peter Cameron will be on show during March and April, with the chance to meet the artist on Tuesday, March 15, at 6pm.
