BECCLES musical theatre group, Spotlight, are doing everything they possibly can to ensure that their summer production Oklahoma! is a roaring success.
They cast their net wide for the principal roles and came up with three new members and four home-grown stars to play the leads.
Patrick Pilgrim, Jenni Newman, Katie Steed, Marion Small, Spencer Botly, Colin Hart and Reuben Mackness were the successful candidates after a gruelling group audition process.
James (Jim) Leggett, musical director will be working with the soloists to ensure that the high standards of Spotlight are not just maintained but exceeded, while Cheryll Titchmarsh will be ensuring that the complex chorus numbers are top notch.
They have, once again, secured the services of the First Steps Dance Troupe after their acclaim in last year’s panto; First Steps will be working with choreographer Katie Steed on the famous dream sequence.
Ginny Jones will assist the director using her vast straight acting experience to coach the cast in their characterisation and mid-west accents.
The first production meeting, chaired by group chairman Barbara Warren and production manager Sarah Mallett, produced some amazing ideas for the set and costumes which will give the play a real wow factor.
The Waveney Light Opera Group have offered to lend some of the costumes from their productions of Calamity Jane and Annie Get Your Gun, while students, Chris Maddison and David Spink will be assisting with the sound and lighting under the expert eyes of David Jordan and Bryan Roscoe.
Rehearsals begin on Tuesday at the Quaker Hall.
The first performance is on June 28.
