You don't have to have been around in the 60s to enjoy the songs, clothes and dance moves brought to life in this feel good musical.

The talented cast captured me from the word go, belting out classics like Twist and Shout, Do You Love Me and Pretty Woman, making me want to shimmy and shake in my chair.

The musical follows on from the hugely popular Dreamboats and Petticoats, which I also saw at the Marina Theatre a few years ago, although you don’t need to have seen the first one to understand or enjoy this. One of the lovely things about the show is that the music is all played live in front of your eyes, with a pianist, drummer, guitar players, and three very talented musicians who appear throughout songs playing and dancing with saxophones and a trumpet.

The story follows three young couples; Bobby and Laura who’s bid for musical stardom has not taken off, Norman and Sue who are expecting a baby and Ray and Donna who are not as happy as they seem. Then follows the demise and rise of singing careers, arguments, an engagement and a whole lot of singing and dancing.

It would be hard for me to pick out just a couple of performers who stole the show, as each cast member had their own unique sound and style, making every number a joy to watch. The script also includes some hilarious one liners, mostly at the expense of lead character Bobby, played by Alex Beaumont.

The whole show was full of colour and energy and it genuinely looked like the cast were having a blast on the stage, and it was obvious from looking around the audience that everyone watching was too.

The show runs until Saturday evening. For more details call the box office on 01502 533200, or visit www.marinatheatre.co.uk for a full line-up of shows.
