To mark the centenary of the start of the First World War Serendipity Productions are presenting a special double bill of remembrance next Friday and Saturday.

On both nights, the evening’s entertainment begins with a very gentle and moving play, Billy Mason from Gloucester, by Sian James, about a 16-year old boy who deserts from the Aamy in 1918, hides in the woods and is befriended by Hetty - a farm worker who is imprisoned for burning the King’s uniform and hiding a deserter.

The second half of the evening, Lest We Forget, is much lighter programme of remembrance with poetry , prose letters, sounds and some music from both world wars.

There will be a raffle on each night and funds raised from the raffle on Friday night will be matched by Barclays Bank and will go towards the local branch of the Royal British Legion so come along to the Hall Box Office, open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 3pm to be sure you secure your tickets which cost £9 or £8 for concessions.

The audience will be able to sing along in the second half and there will be a visit from Gert and Daisy and the Andrews Sisters.

• Flying into the Public Hall this December is Peter Pan! Based on J.M. Barrie’s classic tale Spotlight Musical Theatre Group present the musical adaptation of Peter Pan.

The cast and crew, pictured above, have been working hard at rehearsals since July following the success of their last show Thoroughly Modern Millie. Peter Pan will be another quality performance and not one to be missed as this will be the first show in the Public Hall to have flying rigging installed. The show runs from December 2 to 6, at 7.30pm with an additional matinee show on Saturday at 2.30pm. Tickets are on sale now at the Beccles Public Hall box office or online via www.becclespublichall.com
