The sunny conditions encouraged good crowds to Beccles Hospital Fete as families enjoyed a wide range of fun activities and stalls.

The Rotary Club of Beccles organised Saturday's event and it was supported by many other voluntary organisations in the town, including Helping Hands, which assisted with setting up and taking down the fete stalls.

Mayor of Beccles, Christine Wheeler, opened the fete with the Sir John Leman School Jazz Band and a number of other musicians and singers from the school providing entertainment.

Many other charitable groups had stalls and contributed to the takings. The Rotary club’s own bric-a-brac stall did well.

The beneficiaries of the fete will be the League of Friends of the Hospital and other medically-related or welfare charities in Beccles and nearby.

Organisers say although the full total has not yet been worked out it is looking very promising.

The event saw dancers from the June Glennie School of Dance draw huge applause for a variety of performances, some classical and others modern in style.

The refreshments provided by the Beccles Inner Wheel Club were very popular as always.

CC Betts & Son, the builders’ merchants and DIY store, helped with the transport of borrowed tables and chairs within the town.

The winner of the Beccles Cycle for Life prize for raising the most sponsorship in that event in May was also announced.

Sue Brooham, of Lowestoft and who raised nearly £300 for charity, won Lord Somerleyton’s prize of a day out for four in the gardens at Somerleyton Hall.
