Controversial street art which has divided opinion among locals in the town centre of Bungay has been painted over.

The artist Vinnie Nylon gifted the art to the town for free in what was supposed to be a way of bringing joy to Bungay.

Instead it led to a planning wrangle and divided opinion in the town.

The Fisher Theatre commissioned the artist to do the work after the town council had agreed on the locations.

But barely as the paint had dried in August when the work was complete, East Suffolk Council launched an investigation into the work as it was in breach of listed building consent.

The theatre admitted it had never sought permission.
